The main market stalls and chalets of the Marché de Noël à Montreux are beautifully located on the quays of Lake Geneva. Further stalls are in Grand Rue and in the covered market. Santa’s workshop at Rochers-de-Naye Alpine peak above Montreux is a beautiful cog-wheel train trip for children and adults. A Christmas village is set up in Caux, a small town above Montreux that is also best reached by train.
Riding the giant Ferris wheel is popular for views of the market stalls, Montreux, the lake, and the Alps. Boat cruises are also possible on Lake Geneva during the Christmas market period. The statue of Freddie Mercury is always popular with fans posing for selfies.
Chateau de Chillon, which is a very popular photo motive too, is around a 45 minutes walk along the lakefront from Montreux, or a few minutes on the bus or train. It has a special medieval Christmas market on weekends during December.
